The Power of Words - Mr Petrie's latest video...

This Term's Challenge - The Power of Words

We are calling this term 'The Power of Words'. All classes have the challenge of creating something for a festival about the 'Power of Words' that we have at the end of the term. Mr Petrie presented each class with the challenge as a  'Message in a Bottle'.

Classes have also been challenged to reply to Mr Petrie in the most interesting way. See a few replies below. We are gathering speed for an exciting term!

Look out for news about the festival!

Using Edmodo in the Classroom

We now have students from Year 3-8 starting to use Edmodo. It operates in a similar way to Facebook but is a closed system. In other words, only students within the class can use it.

Learning to use this type of social media productively and appropriately is really important for students and they can do this within the confines of the class. It works with any website or mobile device. It is a great platform for learning as students can share and collaborate on their work. Parents can assist at home by reinforcing good practice and reminding students that this is a tool for learning.

A Hundred Devices Registered!

We now have 100 mobile devices registered at Gulf Harbour School. It is great to see students using them for their learning. There are more devices in the senior part of the school but it is great to see them appearing at the junior end too.

Room 29's Amazing Photography

Room 29 are taking some wonderful photographs. They are planning to use these to show the values of the school. That is, Bravery, Responsibility, Fun and Resilience. Have a look here on this link...

The Stadium is Really Taking Shape!

The Year 7 and 8 Stadium is really starting to look good.  They are trying to create the feeling and atmosphere you get from a real stadium. There are logos (converted to positive messages), cheering crowds (silhouettes) and bleachers among other things. It really is worth a look. (Formerly Room 16)

Teachers Beat Students in Netball Thriller!

There was great excitement on the court today as the teachers took on the Year 7 and 8 students. The students performed well but couldn't match the old but explosive teachers! Well done to every one who competed! Mr Widdowson had a bit of trouble sorting out his bib!

Kiara's Angel Walk

Keira's Angel Walk was a great success last Sunday. People walked around the Orewa estuary or enjoyed the fun day at the reserve. Funds were raised for Child Cancer Foundation and Cure Kids. It was a day to remember Kiara a very special person. Our own celebrity Jackson was there selling baking. Go Jackson!
