Everyone wanted a yummy cake. Their eyes were wide and their faces grinning. I whispered "uhhhhhh" when they got that cake they scrunched and munched it up. We thought that we wouldn't get that many people but there were MILLIONS surrounding our table. We made about 40 or 50 $$$$$. It was amazing.

Chocolate Lovers Cake Stall.

On Wednesday June the 26th, there was a cake sale at GHS. There were chocolate smiles galore at Hut 24 to raise money for the treasure for our treasure hunt. There were chocolate moustaches, cookies, cake and cupcakes too. It was so great because we made lots of treasure money, we had customers coming out of our eye balls.

Navy Helicopter Lands at Gulf Harbour School!

I heard the throbbing sound of the rotor blades as the grey giant fell from the sky. The force of the wind blew me away and the noise oh the noise it fried my ear drums. When the helicopter touched the bright gleaming grass every part of my body froze with excitement. I had never seen one so close to me especially not one from the navy.

As soon as the three soldiers hopped out. That is Hamish, Scott and Benny. They started answering questions on what they do or about the big grey beast behind their back but before that they answered their own questions that other schools had asked them in the past. After their long session of answers we all got a chance to look around the beastly chopper.

I took about half a million photos on my iPad of the same thing over and over again if you saw them you would believe me. After about two minutes it was going to leave as soon as I heard the news I thought of the wind and the horrific noise it made. So I stood back and here we go again The screams of panic the strength of the wind pushing against me and as soon as you can say magic-a-gas-tank it was gone.

Great Story From Alex

Alex from the Stadium submitted this story to the Barefoot and Thompson Young Author's Challenge. Well done it's fantastic Alex!

The farm expanded into view as they drew near it. Bentley's owner was going on a holiday, so he was being dropped off at his cousins farm. "Woof Woof" barked Bentley. He jumped up against his owners big blue car. "Goodbye my little puppykins, see you soon". The car door slammed shut and she was gone in a cloud of powdery dirt and hard little stones that hit Bentley's well brushed fur.

Bentley turned around to meet his cousins Tahi, Rua, Toru and Wha. "Come on Bentley we are going sheep hopping".
" What's that ?" said Bentley.
"Come, we'll show you" replied Tahi. He led Bentley to a fence. He then slithered under the little gap underneath and out the other side. Then he jumped over one of the sheep and into a mud puddle. Rua, Toru and Wha joined followed him. Bentley crawled on his belly and tried to squeeze under the fence. He didn't move. He tried again. He couldn't budge. He was stuck. It must be the organic chocolate flavoured doggie biscuits he snacked on. He should really go on a diet, he thought. Bentley managed to slither backwards and out the way he came. The others watched. "Well we're going to have fun anyway" said Rua With a sneer, and they ran off.

Bentley walked back to the farm, his fluffy tail dropping and sat down in the long grass.
CLASH! CLASH! "Dinner" hollered the farmer. Bentley's ears perked up and he raced inside the farm house. But where were the shiny metal bowls with his name engraved? Where was Mrs Newman's Organic Pet Chow? The farmer threw a greasy slab of dog roll on the floor. The other dogs were on top of it at once, fighting over every scrap. "Squelch," a mushy pile of mashed potato landed inches away from Bentley. He sniffed it. YUCK! he walked away. I'd best just go to bed he thought. He followed the sound of snoring. It led to a large kennel with its fading paint flaking off. Where was the embroidered cushions and fluffy blanket? He sat down on the hard dirt floor, his tummy empty and his bed uncomfortable. " I miss my owner. I miss my home !" He whimpered. Poor Bentley. Little did he know, things were about to get better for him!

Bentley woke up and for a second he forgot where he was. But then it all came flooding back. "Hmmm," he sighed and stretched his sore limbs, then staggered out of the kennel. He watched his cousins scavenge the last scraps of the farmers breakfast off the floor. Without another word they walked out the door.
"Hey" Bentley called. "Where are you going?"
"We're rounding up the sheep " said Toru.
"Yeah, you can't come" said Wha. " because you're useless" said Rua and without another word they turned and stalked past him.

Bentley ran until he could run no more. He collapsed onto the grass. Tears rolled down his fur. Suddenly he stopped and he cocked his ears. What was that noise? " Help, help". Feeble cries sounded not far away. He followed the calls to a large mud pool. There was a quad bike and the cries seemed to be coming from underneath it!. Bentley looked under the bike. There was the farmer's son Sam!. He had to act quickly. Sam was sinking further and further into the mud pool even as he watched. Bentley jumped into the pool and grabbed his checked shirt with his teeth. Bentley's owner took him for swims daily because she believed it was nutritious for his coat, so he was a very strong swimmer. He pulled him out from under the bike and paddled to the bank with all his little doggy might.

"Chugga chugga chugga," Bentley's long hair and floppy ears were blown back as the Westpac helicopter landed. They rolled the boy onto a large stretcher and moved him into

the helicopter. The paramedic patted Bentley's head. " You've done a great job," she whispered. We'll take over from here, and then the helicopter flew up and away on it's journey to Starship.

"Thank goodness you found him, because we are not very strong swimmers." Said Rua. Bentley smiled with pride.

"Vroom vroom" an engine sounded and a blue car appeared along the dusty road.
"My owner," Bentley cried and he jumped in the car.
"Bye bye" he barked until his throat was sore and his cousins were miniature dots on the horizon, and the farm was just like a green postage stamp. "Hmmm" he sighed peacefully and settled back into the comfy car seat. He rested his head on the windowsill, his floppy ears dancing in the warm wind. That was the adventure of a lifetime. He couldn't wait to come again, he thought, as he drifted off into a well earned sleep.

Using Edmodo in the Classroom

We now have students from Year 3-8 starting to use Edmodo. It operates in a similar way to Facebook but is a closed system. In other words, only students within the class can use it.

Learning to use this type of social media productively and appropriately is really important for students and they can do this within the confines of the class. It works with any website or mobile device. It is a great platform for learning as students can share and collaborate on their work. Parents can assist at home by reinforcing good practice and reminding students that this is a tool for learning.

A Hundred Devices Registered!

We now have 100 mobile devices registered at Gulf Harbour School. It is great to see students using them for their learning. There are more devices in the senior part of the school but it is great to see them appearing at the junior end too.

Room 29's Amazing Photography

Room 29 are taking some wonderful photographs. They are planning to use these to show the values of the school. That is, Bravery, Responsibility, Fun and Resilience. Have a look here on this link...
